Group Life Assurance (“Death in Service”)

As they do not form part of an employee’s P11D benefit, these plans are highly valued. They can provide a high level of insurance, sometimes without the need for medicals or questionnaires. This means that pre-existing health conditions can often be covered and members are likely to get higher levels of cover than under some individual policies without the need for underwriting.

Group Income Protection

As with Group Life Assurance, these policies don’t attract a P11D liability for employees. They provide financial support for employees if they are unable to work and provide access to therapeutic services, which may support employees before illness becomes incapacitating. This can help employers manage workplace absence much more effectively. If the employee is off work, the insurer will also support their rehabilitation, helping to ensure they are back to work when they are ready and offering medically approved strategies or tools to help with that process.

Critical Illness Cover

This pays a tax-free sum to an employee if they are diagnosed with a specified critical illness. These acute conditions typically include heart attacks, strokes and some types of cancer. The lump sums offer significant help through a difficult time, providing employees and their families with crucial financial support. Insurers can also provide both emotional and practical support services.
